If you like the idea of adding more collagen rich bone broth to your diet, but don’t love the idea of sipping on something super savory, I’ve got you covered. Enter these fun, fruity ways to enjoy a bone broth smoothie!
Yes, I really did say bone broth smoothie. It doesn’t exactly roll off the tongue at first, but I can promise you that these are a super delicious way to drink up both your bone broth and a bunch of tasty fruits & veggies first thing.
Here are a couple of tips to whizzing up your own bone broth smoothies:
- The final flavor of your bone broth smoothies will depend on the flavor of your broth. I prefer to make these with chicken or pork broth as they’re more mild & to use a broth that isn’t strongly flavored or highly salted.
- I have tested this with both conventional boxed broths and with homemade, unsalted broth. The recipe works just fine with both, but using homemade and unsalted broth if you can will give you the most neutral flavored base.
- Start out with 50:50 broth to water if you’re feeling a little unsure about this whole broth smoothie idea! Or you could add a smidge of banana for extra sweetness as counterbalance if you need it.
- If you use homemade broth, note that the collagen rich broth may make your bone broth smoothies gel or set if you make them ahead of time & then store them in the fridge. If that happens, just give ’em a good shake or re-blend them for a few seconds.
I’ve kept all of these AIP friendly bone broth smoothies added sugar free, since they’re made with whole fruit & veggies. The fiber helps slow down that sugar absorption and keep blood sugar stable, plus I find it helpful to enjoy these with a little bite or two of something on the side to really get digestion going as you drink.
To make these bone broth smoothies extra satiating, you can also experiment with adding collagen powder, avocado or dairy free milks, too.
